February 2016 Newsletter

Valentines Day is just around the corner – love is in the air.

It's the perfect time to focus on what we love about ourselves – what makes each one of us unique and wonderful.

All too often negative voices fill my mind saying I am not measuring up to expectations – that I am not enough.

I love what Dieter F. Uchtdorf has to say about that.

“God is fully aware that you and I are not perfect.

Let me add: God is also fully aware that the people you THINK are perfect are not.

And yet we spend so much time and energy comparing ourselves to others – usually comparing our weaknesses to their strengths. This drives us to create expectations for ourselves that are impossible to meet. As a result, we never celebrate our good efforts because they seem to be less than what someone else does.”

So today I am going to celebrate my good efforts.

I need to remember:

“He who created and knows the stars knows you and your name – you are the daughters of His kingdom.

   -Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Principles of Liberty Colloquium: A community book club

We are excited to announce the re-formation of our dynamic and engaging book group, dedicated to studying the principles of liberty, moderated by Warren Wing. We moderated this at our house for over three years before Warren had to take jobs around the world to provide for our family. We invite parents and grandparents and other adults to join us and to bring any of your mature young adults. We encouarge and thrive on the perspectives of persons from different generations and life experiences.

Our first book will be The Abolition of Man by C. S. Lewis. We will discuss the ideas about where principles come from, are they important, and what could happen if they are ignored. Can principles evolve? Do we really understand and live by the principles we espouse?

Our first monthly meeting will take place on Saturday, March 5th at 7:00pm. Please contact Kimberly at sosiouxmeto@msn.com for location.
