Hello Ladies (and Gents!)

My name is Ruth Hansen and I am heading up the DHSA Board as president this year. I am a fun lovin' homeschool mama of 7 kiddos ranging in age from 20 to 5. I am married to Steven Hansen, the man of my dreams. I love making and eating chocolate, a big ol' bowl of fresh hot air-popped popcorn, a good book, and fun design socks. Through all the ups and downs of life I have come to know that life is wonderful – and it's best shared with God, family, and good friends.

I am so excited to be serving you this next year. I look forward to getting to know each of you better. Please come introduce yourselves to me – lets be friends!

Every year I think that life will slow down during the summer – there will be lazy summer afternoons and I will be able to give my kids the luxury of being bored. Ha! Somehow life seems to wind ever and ever faster like a yo-yo. Running in one direction and then another.

This school year, I challenge you to take time to savor the happy moments with your family. Slow down in the rush to notice the sweet smile or the kind word. Give praise and love and laughter. Observe the beauty and majesty of the world around you. Make time in your crazy run of life to create those joyful family moments.

I recently read a fun article with lots of fabulous ideas for family fun. I hope it gets you started thinking on how to make those kiddos of yours smile.

Hugs!

Ruth

(A recent joyful moment for my crew – We stopped by Krispy Kremes for a father's day deal. Wear in a tie – and take home a box of donuts – a box per person! That's a lot of donuts! Gulp – Have you ever seen the smile on a kid with their own whole box of donuts?)

Janet Cox lives in Nampa and has homeschooled for 11 years. She has 11 kids, 9 at home, and 4 grandsons.

She enjoys reading, visiting with friends, and working with geeky number stuff like taxes and budgets. She is a curriculum junkie, so if you have questions about a curriculum she has probably looked at it, tried it, or reviewed it. She is serving as DHSA’s Treasurer and encourages everyone to save their Box Tops for Education and turn them in to any member of the board.  Each Box Top is worth 10 cents and they add up fast!  Box Tops fund our organization and pay for paper goods and party supplies, as well as help defray costs for DHSA events and activities!

Tami Chandler is a homeschool mom of three boys 17, 14, and 10. She enjoys doing most of the family activities like, four-wheeling, camping, geocaching, hiking, playing games, watching movies, and building with K'nex and Legos, but she leaves the video games and the "techy" stuff to the boys. She began her home school journey about 21 years ago when she was introduced to home school families while working at the GED testing center at BSU. She soon met her husband, who is a product of homeschooling, and started wondering if she was being prepared for something. Sure enough, when her first child was nearing school age he struggled greatly being around others, especially in Primary. After much prayer and fasting, she decided it would be best to homeschool! Homeschooling has been an interesting and challenging journey filled with many blessings. She is grateful for all of the opportunities, experiences, and support that she and her family have had since moving from Caldwell to Boise last November.

Classes, Co-ops, and Learning Opportunities:

Dance Classes and performance opportunities with Rhythm Dancers:

Preschool class (ages 3-5) Tuesday 2:30pm: $15 deposit and $20 monthly Rhythm Dancers (ages 10-18) Tuesday 3:30pm: $20 deposit and $25 monthly Rhythm Dancers Jr. (ages 6-10) Tuesday 4:30pm: $20 deposit and $25 monthly

Prices are low because classes are offered in our home. Near Lake Hazel/Maple Grove.

For those in Rhythm Dancers and Rhythm Dancers Jr., we will be performing in BSU's Homecoming Parade in October and Festival of Trees in November. I try to offer one performance a month during the school year for Rhythm Dancers. The preschool class will have one or two performances during the year.

Our main dance style is jazz. We work on basic dance technique every class in addition to learning routines for performance. From September through the spring our focus is on dance. When the weather gets nicer in the spring, we work on more colorguard (flag work) skills.

Please forward this message to any friends that you think might be interested in joining our group. --Melissa Wolfe (208) 991-3966 rdjazzer@yahoo.com
