NaNoWriMo

Have you or your kids ever wanted to write a novel? Here’s your chance! In October,
I’m offering a free, four week Creative Writing class in preparation for National Novel Writing Month. What IS National Novel Writing Month? Glad you asked!

National Novel Writing Month (a.k.a. NaNoWriMo) happens all over the nation (and even the world!) every November! It's a fun, seat-of-your-pants writing event where the challenge is to complete an entire novel in just 30 days. For one month, you get to lock away your inner editor, let your imagination take over, and just create!

That means participants begin writing November 1 and must finish by midnight,
November 30. The word-count goal for our adult program is 50,000 words, but the
Young Writers Program (YWP) allows 17-and-under participants to set reasonable, yet challenging, individual word-count goals.

Registration is free, though to officially participate, writers must sign up online. Writers may do this individually or join my virtual classroom. For registration details, please e-mail me at the address listed below.

In October, students will learn all about creating characters, settings, writing dialogue, and the elements of plot in preparation for actually writing an ENTIRE NOVEL in November!

In November, I will be hosting weekly “Write-Ins.” These meetings are designed to motivate students and parents in their novel writing endeavors and find inspiration in the process.

Students of all ages and writing abilities are welcome. This is not a drop off class—
parents are expected to stay and assist their younger writers. Parents may also participate in the NaNoWriMo adult program.

We will meet on Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. Location TBD depending on interest.

For more information about NaNoWriMo, the Young Writers Program, or registering
for the October class and November Write Ins, please e-mail

and put “NaNo Class” in the subject line.
